Welcome to SideQuest. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our mobile application.

When you create a SideQuest account, we collect:
- Identity Data: Email address, first and last name, and username.
- Security Data: Encrypted password (stored securely via Supabase Auth).
- Profile Data: Profile bio and profile picture (optional).
2.2 User-Generated Content
To provide our core travel discovery services, we collect:
- City ratings (1-5 stars) and written reviews.
- Photos attached to reviews (up to 3 per review).
- Social interactions, including “Follow” relationships and votes on reviews.
We believe in data minimization. SideQuest does not collect:
- Precise GPS location data.
- Device contacts or private photo galleries.
- Microphone access or external browsing history.
3. Third-Party Services
3.1 Supabase (Backend & Infrastructure)
We use Supabase to host our database and authentication. They provide industry-standard encryption for your profile, photos, and social connections.

3.2 OpenAI (Review Summarization)
We use OpenAI to generate summaries of travel spots.
- Data Sent: Only anonymized review text and ratings.
- Data Excluded: We do not send usernames, PII, or photos to OpenAI.
- Training: Per our API agreement, OpenAI does not use this data to train their models.

4. Your Rights and Choices
- Access & Portability: You may request a copy of your personal data at any time via email.
- Rectification: You can update your profile, travel preferences, and password directly within the app settings.
- Deletion: You may delete your account via Settings > Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, photos, and reviews from our active database. Note: Anonymized aggregate ratings (e.g., a city’s average score) may remain.
